A day at the park

Mateo and Jayden playing around.

Jayden on the swing.

The boys- Anthony, Mateo (my nephew) and Jayden.

Earlier this week Jayden and I went to the park with my sister, my nephew and a good friend and her kiddos. The boys had a blast playing in the playground and running around. Isa played on the swing while watching her older brother play with the boys. It has been nice being off for 2 weeks during the Christmas Holiday, but it almost time to go back to work. I feel blessed I can enjoy a long break with Jayden, but I do love working!
I have also started taking a lot more pictures. Photography has always been my passion. It has the biggest learning curve, in my opinion, but it is so rewarding catching that one "good shot" of Jayden or my nephew. I got a new lens for Christmas (Nikkor 50mm F1.8G) and it is such a great lens! Here is a link to a review for it (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikon_Nikkor_AF-S_50mm_f1-8G) It is inexpensive, in the camera world and I'm already looking at my next lens : )

Merry Christmas!

Jayden at 3 months and 4 days after his birthmark procedure. It's getting there!

Jayden on Christmas Day. This type of photography is called "Bokeh", blurred background.

We had a great Christmas! We went to Christmas Eve Service at 4pm, then to the in laws and then finally to my uncle's for our Christmas celebration. Needless to say, Jayden was extremely tired and lasted until 1130pm. We tried to wake him up to open presents at midnight, but slept right through all the noise. B and I opened our presents that night and we waited until morning for Jayden to open his. He did not wake up until 1030am Christmas Day!!! His favorite presents were Toy Story and Cars. He was blessed and had quite a few this year! I got a new lens for Christmas (Nikon 50mm 1.8F) and absolutely love it! I will be taking quite a few more pictures and looking forward to developing as a photographer : )
Enjoy the pictures!

Christmas is in the air!

Twinkling christmas tree and a moving Jayden

Trying out shots with Princess and my twinkling tree

Christmas is 10 days away! We have been so busy in December with birthday parties, Soccer Tots and Christmas parties. Jayden's last day of school was today and he was so excited for the festivities. I am off for the last two weeks of the year and B will be taking off a few days as well. I am looking forward to relaxing with Jayden, my sister, nephew and my mom. We have a few activities planned (including ice skating at Discovery Green) next week, and hopefully the Festival of Lights in Moody Gardens. I am also excited to be getting a new lens for my camera (from Santa : ) )! The pictures above took me a long time to figure out and they still did not come out as well as I liked. I am really looking forward to pursuing photography!
We are also so grateful for this year! My sister's health, and of course all our wonderful family and friends!

The Gonzales Family at the Baptism.

We had a great Thanksgiving with family on Thursday and even enjoyed some shopping for Black Friday with my mom. We held Thanksgiving at our house again this year, and B cooked a turkey and ham. I also baked a mac and cheese casserole and pumpkin nutella muffins. Yum! We had a great time with family. We are so thankful the blessings God has given us this year!
I was also a Godmother for my cousin's son and the Baptism was also held this Thanksgiving weekend. We had a great time with the family this entire weekend!

Jayden- 2 months after surgery

Jayden during afternoon of surgery.

Jayden at 2 months after surgery. (11/21/11)
He is healing, slower than I would like, but we trust in God. I know He will heal him completely. We are grateful that it has been an easy recovery. We have to put sunblock every day, and Jayden does not always like it, but he knows he needs it to protect the area.

Good Bye Crib. Hello Toddler Bed!

Tonight is a big night for Jayden. We have finally converted his crib to a toddler bed. He is 2 years and almost 9 months and we decided it would be time. He was so tired tonight, that he went straight to sleep. I'll be curious to see how he does in the morning. We are hoping he stays in his bed in the mornings and not try to come down the stairs. Here are a few pictures. He was really excited to have a "little bed".

Soccer Tots

Jayden is back to Soccer Tots for the winter session. He tried Little Gym in the summer but really wanted to get back to soccer. His coaches are great! They teach him lots of soccer learning techniques, suitable for 2 year olds. They practice soccer stance (1st picture) as well as obstacle courses and kicking techniques. We are wondering if he is ready for Spring soccer games at the Y. We will see how the rest of this session goes and decide from there. As of now, he looks forward to Saturday mornings every weekend!

Halloween 2011

We had a great Halloween this year! Sorry I'm late posting pictures : ( We went to our dear friend Jackie and Joseph's house for the Kids Halloween party. We ran into Jessie from Toy Story trick o treating and Jayden was in love! I'm glad I got a picture of them : ) I got a few shots of all the kids at the party. We had a lot! The last picture is of Jayden and Mateo (his cousin). The boys had a blast at school this year as well as our neighborhood party. Looking forward to next year's Halooween!

Jayden's Birthmark Update

Jayden's surgery scar is getting a bit lighter. I emailed his plastic surgeon because I was concerned that his birthmark is darker than when he started. He told me to massage it and make sure to put sunblock everyday. It can take up to 6 months for the scar area to heal. We are already seeing an improvement and continue to put our faith in God for his continued healing. Here are some comparison pictures.

Weekend Fun!

B and I went to the Texans game last Sunday. The Texans lost to the Raiders, boo, but the guys had great seats. Eli and I sat in the 600s, but were able to enjoy the last few minutes of the game in the 100s with the guys. I was able to take great pictures too!

Yesterday we went to Jazlene's Birthday party. I enjoyed taking pictures for her birthday and Jayden had a blast with his cousins. They rode a horse, hit the pinata, and had some yummy cake. Enjoy the pictures! The last picture is all the 2nd cousins on the Dominguez side (Jayden's paternal grandma) and that's not all of them : )

Jayden's Follow up appointment

Jayden on Oct. 4. Can you tell he is ready for Halloween? If you can see from picture, he's wearing his Woody costume already!

Jayden and I went to Texas Childrens in the Med Center today to see Dr. Hollier. His biopsy results came out perfectly normal (Praise the Lord!) and the doctor is really impressed at how well he is healing (again, Praise the Lord!). He suggested doing another procedure in 3-4 months to take the last bit that is left. I will send him a picture in 2 months and we will decide from there. We will again leave it all up to God and He will guide us in what direction to take. We are so grateful for His blessing at how well Jayden has done with this process. It's not one we ever wanted to take but comepletely have felt God's presence through it.
Thank you family and friends for your prayers.
Love,
The Gonzales Family

Jayden Update and the Zoo

Friday Sept 30, 2011

Saturday Oct. 1st

Jayden and mama at the zoo
Jayden and papa at the zoo

Jayden has been doing really well. His scar did not bother him at all, thank God! The scab started to fall off almost a week after surgery. It completely fell off by Saturday, October 1st. We can see a bit of his birthmark is still there, and the rest is showing pink where the scab was. He has a follow up appt with Dr. Hollier this Tuesday, Oct. 4th. We will learn from his biopsy results (we stand in faith that he has no issues to worry about but we always ask for prayers! : ) ), and will ask the doctor what his thoughts are on his healing. I will update as soon as I can from the appt.
We also went to the zoo on saturday. It was a beatiful day and Jayden had a blast at the zoo. His favorite animals are elephants and giraffes. It was definitely packed and we got to enjoy free admission. All Bank of America account holders get into nation wide zoos and museums for free every first full weekend of the month. We enjoyed the Children's Museum a couple of months ago and this past weekend, the zoo.
Enjoy the pictures.

Jayden- Post procedure Update

Jayden and his cousin Mateo the afternoon of his procedure.

Jayden 1 day post procedure.

Jayden 2 days post procedure.

Jayden 3 days post procedure.

Jayden has been doing well! He has not been bothered at all by his scab that has now grown where birthmark was. We gave him Tylenol when we got home from the hospital and that has been it. He is such a strong little boy : ) The pictures show his healing post procedure. Thank you all for your messages and for checking on him! We will go back for a follow up appt first week of October. I'm sure we will get biopsy results then too. We feel God's peace and healing hand on Jayden!

Jayden is 2.5 years old

Jayden in early Sept. 2011. Birthmark on left side of his nose.

Jayden a few hours after his procedure on Sept. 21, 2011.

Wow! It has been over 1 1/2 years since I've updated our family blog. I figured this is a good time as any to update.
Jayden was 27 lbs 9 oz and 36 1/2 in tall at his 2 1/2 year check up. He is average for height and about 20% percentile for weight. He's always been my skinny boy : ) He has grown to have such a great personality and is just full of joy! He loves, loves Toy Story, as well as Cars, dinosaurs and Diego. He goes to a Children's Day Out program 2 days a week and loves his teachers this year.
Jayden had outpatient surgery today. He was born with a nevus (technical name for birthmark). Our first pediatrician told us it would go away on its own. We were so hopeful! As his nose grew, nevus grew, unfortunately. We took him to his first dermatologist when he was 11 months old. He suggested plastic surgery because it could not be done in the office. We went to go see Dr. Hollier at Texas Children's in the Medical center the summer of 2010, at almost 18 months. He told me the first thing to do was to put a cream that would burn off the first layer of his skin where nevus was. We made an appt to do procedure in Sept. 2010. We cancelled the appt because we were still not sure where God wanted us to go. I was referred to Dr. Bree, pediatric dermatologist in Sept. 2010. She was great! Jayden loved her. She did not want me to put Jayden through procedure. She wanted to keep track of his nevus to watch for any suspicion of malignancy, even though it was < 1%. We saw her again 6 months later when Jayden was 2 years old. I was really hopeful we could do something for Jayden's nevus. She brought it up again and actually suggested to go ahead and do procedure with Dr. Hollier. She told us, Jayden was the only patient she would suggest the procedure to because his nevus was pretty much on the surface of skin and she thought it would work on him. After a few appeals with our insurance company, they were claiming cosmetic reasons, we were set up for Sept. 21, Today! We still prayed for God's guidance and asked Him for wisdom. We both felt at peace with our decision.
We checked in at 715am and Jayden played with all the toys. They had a ton! About 830am, they called us back and Jayden changed to his TCH pajamas. I dressed up like a "bunny" (scrub suit) and took Jayden with me and doctors at 9am for the anesthesia. We had talked to him about the mask, he has done breathing treatments in the past. Thank God for making it easier in that sense! We started counting and by the time we got to 20, he was out. I laid him on the bed and nurses led me out. At that point I almost lost it, but God quickly reassured my fears.
B and I went to waiting area and within 20 mins, they called us back. We walked in to recovery area and he was fighting nurses as they tried to out restraints on his little arms so he would not scratch his nose. (We later told him that they wear Buzz Lightyear arm bands! To infinity and beyond!) He was out for a little longer but we could still make sense of what he was saying. We gave him a popsicke, and almost made him throw up. But Thank God, he didn't! We left TCH at about 1030am. He has not complained since we've been home. We will give him Tylenol as needed. He also had his nevus biopsied and are at peace that God has this! I'm not even sure when we will get results but are following up with Dr. Hollier in a week or so. The skin will be red for a bit but right now it just look really dark brown. It will also scab and must keep Jayden away from it. Easier said than done.
We ask for continued prayers. Prayers for quick recovery, awesome results from his biopsy and are very hopeful this procedure will work and
he will not need anymore.
I'm gone for a while end up writing a novel.
