Baby News: Two weeks old!

Hi all,
My mom and I are getting back from their 2 week check up. We were there for 2 hours!
Ava is now 6 lbs 10 oz and Aiden is 4 lbs 10 oz. They are doing great! Pediatrician wants to see them again next week for growth and weight check. It was a trip to get out once with all 3 kids. We dropped Jayden off at my sister's. Jayden and Mateo have Faith Summer camp all week until 2pm! And now we'll have to do it again next week. Lol
I had my shower on Sunday. It was so great to see everyone!!! I got so many wonderful things for Ava & Aiden.

Baby News: We are all home!

I'm so tired but wanted to update that my sweet family is all home. Nothing warms my heart more than thinking of all 5 of us are finally under one roof. It's been a long journey but God has been amazingly good through it all. Ava came home after 10 days in nicu and Aiden spent 11. Mama spent 86 days ante Partum. So blessed to be home!

Baby News: Day 10

Ava is home!! Our baby girl is home with us. My mom and I spent all day at the hospital today. We fed both babies all day and got training on Ava's monitor. Her medical report shows that monitor was at our request. Makes us feel safer for her.
We are praying Aiden continues to drink all his bottles and will be coming home tomorrow!!!
Ill keep you posted.

Baby News: Day 9

Ava and Aiden continue to do well in nicu. Aiden has been drinking most of his bottle goal of 35 mL. I can get him to drink most of it, it just takes lots of patience with him. He takes my breast milk better and since he's smaller, he gets it more often. Ava is still drinking 60 mL (2 oz) and sleeps really well too. Nurse covered Aiden's eyes with his hat today because he would not go to sleep after feeding. He finally did. He also had a circumcision today. And only drank 5 mL with daddy in the evening. It's normal but want to make sure he drinks his regular feeding at 9pm tonight.
Aiden is weighing 4 lbs 3 1/2 oz and Ava is 5 lbs 15 1/2 oz. We will bring her home on an apnea monitor for our peace of mind. She had 2 apnea episodes lasting about 15 seconds but the doctor agreed to let us bring a monitor home. We are hoping to get monitor and training tomorrow. And then she can come home! Aiden is so close too. My sister bought us a new car seat that goes down to 4 lbs. He needs to go car seat test next. We are praying he keeps up with his feeding.
Thank you all for the prayers!!

Baby News: One week old!

Hi friends,
Ava is now weighing 5 lbs 12 oz, up 3 oz from her birth weight. Aiden is 4 lbs 2 oz, up 2 oz from birth weight. Nurse took Aiden's feeding tube out this morning since he has been drinking all bottles by mouth. And, he is now in an open air crib as of this evening! No more incubator. Yay! The doctor has asked for his car seat so car seat test is soon. They will check heart rate and breathing while sitting in his car seat for 90 mins. They are both getting so close to coming home. Thank you all for the prayers. Keep them coming!

Baby News: Day 6

Hi all,
I went with my mom and sister to the hospital today to see the babies. I fed Aiden and he drank 40 mL of my breast milk. Well, he drank 32 with me and the nurse finished the last 8. They will take the feeding tube out once he drinks all 8 bottles for 48 hrs. I think 48 hrs will be by today.
We talked to the nurse about Ava. She said Apnea of prematurity is very common in preemies, hence the name. I asked about caffeine, since I've read it really helps babies that have apnea. She said that is for more extreme cases. For babies that have apnea episodes 3-5 times a day.
We will continue to take it one day at a time, and are grateful for our babies' health.

Baby News: Day 5

Hi friends,
The babies continue to do great!
Aiden is now drinking his 8 of 8 bottles by mouth. He was increased from 25 mL to 30mL (1oz) and now will go to 35 mL. His max is 36mL. He is drinking my breast milk (pumped) first and then the difference in formula. He is still in an isolette (incubator) at 29 degrees Celsius. He needs to get to 28, and then he will be transferred to an open air crib and has to maintain his temperature for 24-48 hrs, at the minimum. He will also need to pass his car seat test, where they will out him on monitors for 90 mins, to make sure all his levels are fine. He is weighing 3 lbs 15 1/2 oz. His birth weight was 4 lbs. So he is on his way back to his birth weight.
Ava is drinking 60 mL (2 oz) per feeding. Was never on a feeding tube nor isolette. She is a great eater! She is weighing 5 lbs 7 3/4 oz. Her birth weight was 5 lbs 9 oz. the neonatal doctor on call today said that her first apnea episode was during transition, from recovery to nursery, and did not count. So count down begins from yesterday's episode. They will release her on Wednesday, if no more episodes. I asked about the sleep study test, and will only do it if she has more episodes. He did not recommend taking home an apnea monitor (HAM) but I think we will ask for one. She will wear it for 2-3 months. Apnea is very common in preemies, as more than 50% of preemies get it and outgrow it. We just don't want to take a chance of anther episode.
Thanks for your continued prayers for our healthy babies.

Baby News: Day 4

I talked to the neonatal doctor this morning as we were heading to the hospital. Ava had another apnea episode this morning. She had one the night they were born which automatically meant she had to stay 5 days in nicu. The one from this morning extended her stay until at least Monday. This means that she stops breathing for a couple of minutes. The doctor said since she was born premature, this can be causing her to forget to breathe. The nurse said she picked her up from her crib and started crying. Sounds scary but doctor said she is a healthy baby. They might do sleep study on Monday to see if its something random or might have to keep her on a monitor for a bit. A Home apnea monitor is one we can use at home. We are disappointed but much rather have her at the hospital for more monitoring. Especially since Aiden is still there. He had 3 of 8 bottles by mouth yesterday but doctor said he continues to do well.
Ill keep updating on here since its easier than doing individual updates. And we have learned things can change from 1 day to the next.
Thanks for the prayers for our sweet miracles. We can't wait to bring them home!

Baby News: They are here!

Our miracle babies were born on July 9th at 108pm via c section. Ava Elizabeth was born weighing 5 lbs 9 oz and 18 3/4 in long. Aiden Michael was born right after weighing 4 lbs and 16 1/2 in long. Both babies are in Level II nicu doing well. Ava is coming home tomorrow, Sunday after 5 days in nicu. Our little guy will stay a little longer. He is in an incubator but is almost holding his own temperature. He drinks most of his bottles by mouth (5 of 8), and is using feeding tube for others. Once he can do these, and pass a 90 minute car seat test, he can come home! Almost there. I'm recovering well. I came home on Friday and feeling good, but recovering from my c section and 15 weeks of strict and hospital bed rest. We feel so blessed! God has been our Rock during this time. We wouldn't be here without His mercy and grace! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Aiden to come home very soon and for my recovery. Daddy and big brother are in love with both of them : ) Love, The Gonzales Family

Pregnancy News: 35 weeks and ...

C section is scheduled for tomorrow!!! As much as we wanted to make it to 36 weeks, we feel so blessed to have made it this far. I'll be 35 weeks 2 days tomorrow. Honestly, B and I are mentally done. Even Jayden. I know this is part of God's perfect plan, so we are at peace that their birthday will be tomorrow! We continue to ask for your prayers for minimal nicu time for the babies and quick recovery for me after 15 weeks of bed rest. We can't wait to meet our little miracles. Words can't even begin to describe how much we've been waiting for this day. We can't wait to see their sweet little faces : )
Thank you for all the prayers and support during this time!
